Petroglyph Development Group is incredibly excited to share in the groundbreaking ceremony for the 172-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, hosted by Snuneymuxw First Nation, the City of Nanaimo, and PEG Companies. This development takes place on a sacred village site of the Snuneymuxw, Xwsolexwel, which is where our treaty with the colonial government was negotiated and the signing took place in 1854. The development honours and recognizes the significance and value in Snuneymuxw heritage, and will be commemorating the village in the hotel.
PDG is one of the project's primary investors. "For Snuneymuxw to have an active part in this development is very important to our people as we reassert our relationship with our territory," said Chief Wyse. In this project, PDG actively strives to advance economic reconciliation through the creation of career opportunities and the generation of income for Snuneymuxw. This is a significant step for the nation building of Snuneymuxw economically, and we look forward to a long and prosperous future for this hotel as we walk hand in hand with our partners in the community.
